Employers in India often ask salaried people for rent receipts to give the house rent allowance (HRA) benefit in their tax calculation. This tool makes a receipt for each month you choose, all in one A4 PDF, ready to print and get signed by the house owner.

What each receipt shows

Each receipt has a number, the month and year, the amount in figures and in words (for example "Rupees Twelve Thousand Five Hundred Only"), the tenant's name, the address of the rented house, the month the rent is for and, if you fill it, how it was paid. At the bottom are the date, an optional box for a revenue stamp and a signature line with the house owner's name.

Choosing the months

Pick the first and last month, for example April 2026 to March 2027 for a full financial year. One receipt is made for each month in between, up to 36 months at a time. About three receipts fit on each A4 page, so a year of receipts takes four pages.

PAN and address of the house owner

These boxes are optional. When the yearly rent crosses a limit set by the income-tax rules, employers usually ask for the house owner's PAN. Fill in what your office asks for; the PAN is printed in capital letters.

Signature and revenue stamp

The receipts must be signed by the house owner after printing. The revenue stamp box gives space to stick a stamp if your office asks for one; switch it off if it is not needed.

Be honest

Make receipts only for rent you have really paid, with the real amount, dates and names. Receipts are checked by employers and can be checked by the income-tax department, and false receipts can lead to a penalty.

Safe sharing

If you email the receipts, you can lock the PDF with a password using the lock PDF tool and share the password separately.

Keep copies

Keep a scanned copy of the signed receipts with your tax papers, together with proof of payment such as bank or UPI transfer records. If your office asks again later, you can show the same receipts and the payment trail.

Akhil pays ₹12,500 a month for a flat in Pune. He fills in his name, the owner's name, the address and rent, picks April to September, prints the two pages, gets each receipt signed and gives them to his office.
