Spot & Date Eraser
Brush over a printed date, pen mark or spot to remove it.
Brush over the small thing you want gone, like a date stamp or a spot, and the tool fills it in from its surroundings.
Remove a date stamp, pen mark or spot from a photo
Old camera photos often have the date printed in orange in a corner, scanned photos have dust and scratches, and photos of documents can have a stray pen mark. This tool lets you paint over the unwanted part with a brush, and it fills that area with colours taken from the pixels around it, so the mark disappears into the background.
How to paint
After you add the photo, paint directly on the 'Before' picture with your finger or mouse. The painted area is shown in orange. You can paint several strokes, change the brush size with the slider, undo the last stroke or clear everything. Paint a little beyond the edges of the mark so no coloured outline is left behind.
How the filling works
The tool first averages the known colours around the painted area at smaller and smaller sizes, then fills the hole from these averages and smooths it, and finally adds back a little of the photo's own grain so the patch does not look plastic. Only the painted area changes; the rest of the photo stays exactly as it was, at up to about 3200 pixels on the long side.
Where it works best
It works best on small marks on plain areas such as sky, walls, skin, paper or a table. On busy backgrounds with patterns, or for large objects like a person or a car, the filled area can look smudged, because the tool does not invent new detail. For those, try smaller strokes, or crop the photo instead.
Do not use it to change documents
Use this tool to clean up your own photos. Changing dates or details on certificates, bills or official documents to mislead someone is illegal. To hide private details on a document before sharing, use the Hide part of an image tool, which covers them clearly.
Save the result
Save as JPG for sharing, or PNG if you will edit the photo again. If a mark is still visible, open the result again and paint over what is left.
An example
A family scans an old holiday photo that has the date printed in orange in the bottom right corner. They paint over the date with a medium brush, a little beyond the numbers, and press the button. The orange numbers are replaced by the colours of the sky around them, and the photo is ready to print or frame.
Private by design
