Add pages for notes to any PDF

Students like to print lecture slides with a lined page after each slide for notes. Teachers add a blank sheet at the end of a question paper for rough work. Offices insert an empty page so a document prints correctly on both sides, or add a cover page to write on by hand. This tool inserts plain, lined or squared pages into a PDF, wherever you need them.

Where the pages go

Choose 'At the end', 'At the start', 'After every page', or 'After these pages' and type page numbers such as 2, 5 or a range like 3-6. You can add 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10 pages at each place. The original pages are not changed or moved in any other way, so text stays sharp and can still be selected.

Page styles

'Plain white' adds empty pages. 'Lined' adds light blue ruled lines 8 mm apart with a red margin line on the left, like a notebook. 'Squares' adds a light grey 5 mm grid, useful for maths, drawings and diagrams. The lines are light so handwriting stands out when you print.

Page size

Every new page takes the size and direction of the page next to it, so a landscape slide gets a landscape notes page and an A4 page gets an A4 page. If you want all pages to have one size first, run Resize PDF to A4 before this tool.

Printing on both sides

When a document with an odd number of pages is printed on both sides, the next document starts on the back of its last sheet. Adding one blank page at the end fixes that, which helps when you print several files together.

An example

A student has 20 slides as a PDF. She chooses 'After every page' with the lined style and prints 40 pages: each slide followed by a ruled page for her own notes.

Good to know

The new pages are real PDF pages, so you can also write on them on a tablet with a PDF app. Page numbers that were printed on the original pages do not change. If you want numbers on the final file, run Add Page Numbers afterwards. Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first. To put two slides and their notes on one sheet, use the 2 pages in 1 PDF tool after adding the pages.

Private by design

Everything happens inside your own browser. Your files and the details you type are never uploaded to a server, and nothing is kept after you close the page. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit. For contracts, bank papers and personal photos this matters more than anything else.
