Free UPI QR Code and GST Bill for Your Shop: A Simple Guide
Updated: 2026-10-18
A small shop needs two things every day: an easy way to take UPI payments and a proper bill. Both can be made free in the browser, without buying billing software. This guide explains how, and what a GST tax invoice must show.
A UPI QR code for your counter
Open the QR code tool and choose UPI payment. Enter your UPI ID, for example name@bank, and the name customers should see. Leave the amount empty for a counter QR so customers type the amount, or fill it for a fixed price item. Download it as PNG to print, or SVG for a large sharp print. Test it once with your own phone by scanning and checking that the right name appears, before printing many copies.
Money goes straight to your own UPI ID; PDFPixo is not involved in the payment at all.
What a GST tax invoice must show
Under Rule 46 of the CGST Rules, a tax invoice includes, among other things: your name, address and GSTIN; a serial invoice number unique for the financial year; the date; the customer's name, address and GSTIN if registered; HSN or service codes; description, quantity and unit; taxable value and discount; GST rate and amount (CGST and SGST, or IGST); place of supply; whether reverse charge applies; and your signature. For unregistered customers, name and address are needed when the value is more than Rs 50,000.
HSN codes depend on turnover: businesses above Rs 5 crore use 6 digits, others use at least 4 digits on business-to-business invoices. Composition dealers issue a bill of supply instead of a tax invoice. Rules change, so confirm details with your tax adviser.
Making the bill
Open the GST invoice tool, fill your business details once, add items with HSN, quantity, rate and GST slab, and the tool calculates CGST and SGST or IGST, the total and the amount in words. You can add a UPI QR with the bill amount so the customer can pay by scanning the bill. Download the PDF and share it on WhatsApp or print it.
Barcodes for products
If you label your own products or shelves, the barcode tool makes Code 128 or EAN-13 labels. Note that EAN-13 numbers for products sold in big stores must be bought from GS1 India; made-up numbers are fine only for your own shop.
A worked example
A mobile accessories shop sells a charger for Rs 590 including 18 percent GST to a walk-in customer. In the invoice tool the owner adds the item with its HSN code, quantity 1 and rate Rs 500, chooses 18 percent, and the tool shows CGST Rs 45 and SGST Rs 45 for a sale within the state, total Rs 590, with the amount in words. With UPI turned on, a QR for Rs 590 is printed on the bill. The customer scans it, pays, and receives the PDF on WhatsApp.
Keeping records
Invoice numbers must run in order without repeating in a financial year, so keep a simple register of the last number you used. Save every PDF bill in a dated folder on your phone or computer and back it up, because PDFPixo does not keep copies of your bills.
Printing the QR so customers can scan it easily
Print the QR at least 5 cm wide, with a white border around it, on matte paper if possible, because shiny lamination reflects light and makes scanning harder. Place it at eye level near the counter, away from direct sunlight. Write your shop name and "Scan to pay with any UPI app" below it, so customers know it is yours. Check it every few weeks for scratches or fading, and replace it if it is damaged. Never accept a QR code from someone claiming to "update" your payment details; make and print it yourself from your own UPI ID.
Private by design
Your business details and bills are made in your browser and are not uploaded to PDFPixo.
