Aadhar PDF Password: Format With Examples and How to Open e-Aadhaar

Updated: 2026-10-18

When you download e-Aadhaar from the UIDAI website or mAadhaar, the PDF is locked with a password. Many people get stuck here because the password is not something they chose. It is made from details printed on your Aadhaar, and once you know the rule it takes a few seconds.

The rule

The password is the first four letters of your name, exactly as printed on Aadhaar, in CAPITAL letters, followed by your year of birth in four digits. For example, for the name Suresh Kumar born in 1990 the password is SURE1990.

Examples that confuse people

If the first name has fewer than four letters, the letters continue into the next part of the name: Sai Kumar born in 1990 becomes SAIK1990. Dots count as characters and spaces are skipped, so P. Kumar born in 1990 becomes P.KU1990. If the whole name has fewer than four letters, only those letters are used, for example RIA1990.

Use the year of birth printed on your Aadhaar. If only the year is shown, use that year.

Common mistakes

Typing small letters instead of capitals. Using a nickname or a surname that comes first in daily life but not on the card. Typing the full date of birth instead of only the year. Adding a space between the letters and the year. If your name was updated recently, the newly downloaded PDF uses the new spelling.

Open it once and keep an unlocked copy

If you upload or print Aadhaar often, the e-Aadhaar tool on PDFPixo asks for your name and birth year, builds the password for you and saves a copy that opens without a password. Note that changing the file in any way means the UIDAI digital signature in the PDF will no longer verify, so keep the original download for official checks.

Share less than the full number

UIDAI lets you download a masked Aadhaar that shows only the last four digits of the number. If you already have the full e-Aadhaar, you can hide the first eight digits yourself with the hide part of PDF tool, and add a watermark saying who the copy is for. Our guide on sharing Aadhaar safely explains this step by step.

Where to download e-Aadhaar

You can download e-Aadhaar from the official UIDAI website (myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in) or the mAadhaar app using your Aadhaar number or enrolment ID and an OTP sent to your registered mobile number. While downloading you can choose the masked version, which shows only the last four digits. Avoid unofficial websites that ask for your Aadhaar number to "download" it for you.

If the password still does not work

Check the exact spelling of your name on the card, including initials and dots. If your name starts with an initial such as "K. Ramesh", the dot is part of the four characters. Check the year of birth on the card, which may differ from the year in other documents. Re-download the file if it was saved from an old message, because an old PDF may carry an earlier spelling. Make sure the keyboard is not adding an automatic capital or a space.

Why the PDF has a password at all

e-Aadhaar contains your full name, address, date of birth, photo and the full Aadhaar number, so UIDAI protects the file with a password that only someone who already knows these details can guess easily. It also carries a digital signature from UIDAI, which official software can check to confirm that the document has not been changed. That is why an e-Aadhaar is accepted as a valid copy, and also why any edited or unlocked copy should be treated as a convenience copy only. For everyday use, a masked and watermarked copy is safer to share than the full file, and for verification at a bank or office, the original download or the QR code check is what they rely on.

Private by design

Your e-Aadhaar is opened inside your browser. The file and your details are not uploaded to PDFPixo.
